"It is
easier to build a child than it is to repair
a broken adult." |
| |
|
Years of child research have made it clear
to us all that what happens to us in our childhood
forever shapes our lives as adults.
Childhood presents many challenges along
the way, from mastering toilet training,
succeeding in school, obeying parents, to
having healthy friendships. All children
stumble along the path to adulthood. Yet
many receive scars from those stumbles,
and others are not able to pick themselves
up when they fall.
Psychotherapy can help your child now with
the problems of childhood so that they don't
later become his/her problems of adulthood. |

How Do I Know if My Child
Needs a Psychologist? |
| |
| |
While all children experience difficulties
as they grow up, those whose troubles do not
go away or seem to be more intense than other
children's problems, may be in need of assistance.
Many problems are transient and require only
short term treatment. Early treatment can
prevent the development of more serious problems
down the road. |

What Does A Child Psychologist
Do? |
| |
|
| |
A Child Pyschologist is uniquely trained
in the behavioral, emotional, and psychological
development of children. Psychologists can
assist children and families with concerns
of behavior, emotion, family, friendships,
and school. They utilize talk therapy, play
therapy, and behavioral techniques to help
bring about positive change in children. Our
doctors are very concerned about proper
diagnosis. On your first visit, a comprehensive
evaluation is performed to ensure that all
areas of your child's life have been considered.
A thorough history is taken and a behavioral
analysis completed. Report cards, test scores,
and previous evaluations are examined. Once
a diagnosis is made, treatment options are
explored with you to determine what best
suits your child's and family's needs.
Treatment options include:
• Individual
• Family
• Play Therapy
• Parent Coaching
• Social SKills Group
• Couples
At Ashley Children's Psychology Center we
use a variety of therapeutic techniques
custom designed to address your child's
particular needs. Talk or Play Therapy may
be used to help your child express his/her
feelings. Behavior Modification is used
when improvement in your child's cooperation
is needed. Family therapy may be recommended
when there are excessive conflicts at home.
Parent Coaching may be utilized to fine
tune parents' skills to better match your
child's personality. |

What if my child is under
the care of other professionals? |
| |
|
| |
The more support children receive the better
off they will be. Many children need additional
help in other areas of their life. Our goal
is to help your child function at his/her
best at home, in school, and socially. We
specialize in treating children's behavioral
and emotional problems. Additional specialists
may be needed for other issues your child
is working on. We can best help your child
if we work with his/her doctors, teachers,
and any other professional involved in your
child's well being. |
